About Artist

The Alley Angel Artist: Aphropik is one of Chicago's rising daughters. That's right...daughters. If the sun won't shine...the daughter definitely will! Aphropik began in the center of the planet and and continued on the local Atlanta hip-hop scene in the late 90's and booooooooy was shy at first (aren't they all)! Female emcees have to overcome the overwhelmingly gender bias (that exist on every level of the hip-hop game) in order to shine. Well...for Aphropik, her battle is to overcome her self through what she insists is "musical introspection." It is safe to say that Aphropik has made a full revolution . . . one may even say she SPARKED IT!

She suggests that the people of the world are a part of a universal collective where her struggle is very much so akin to brown girls of Botswana, the Sudan, Paris, Brazil and definitely the streets of American cities. Her first indy release was in 2003. Abracadabra and Other Magic Words was the button popping from the tight jeans of the freshly feed Fisk University graduate. She stretched her artist wings by including both phenomenally verbose rhymes and some spoken word. After all, the Alley Angel begin her performing career as a spoken word artist. After obtaining a bachelors degree in English Lit with a concentration in African Diasporic Literature (Carribean), the Alley Angel walked into her destiny and began her solo emcee career.

Settling in Nashville, Tennessee was like sitting in the drivers seat of life for the first time....again...for Aphropik. She followed her debut with the then highly anticipated Say My Name (2004) and the critically acclaimed Spark The Artist Revolution (STAR, 2005) where she urged artist to play their positions and walk in the light of their true voices as opposed to what society would have you believe should be your destiny.

Her upcoming release, Torquois: An Off Green Experience is scheduled to be released late fall 2011. It has already received a high buzz as the Alley Angel is highly anticipated...period. Check the rhymes...check the cadence...and move something like Talib or ....not....you could just listen...
