Artisan was formed in Brisbane in mid 2011 by guitarist Sam Lonsdale and Dylan Sherman after meeting through friends. With the addition of bassist Evan Slattery and drummer Chris O'meley later that year the group began working original songs and started their search for an appropriate vocalist. Evan met Greg Pieris a couple of months later and after inviting him to a rehearsal the band knew it was a perfect fit.
